My new painting is called "Creatures of the deep". An interview on NDR television with the deep-sea researcher Professor Antje Boetius brought me to this fascinating topic. In order to delve further into this mysterious world, I watched the film "Nautilus Expedition Highlights", which can be found on Youtube, and many photos on the Internet. Then my painting emerged. The picture can also be found under the menu item Painting. (Creatures of the deep, 80 x 60 cm, acrylic on canvas)
The idea for the painting "Colors in the Wind" was born during corona lockdown. The desire for air and wind was very great. I would have loved to go to the sea, which was just not possible. That's why I wanted to paint my ideas of fresh air and wind. The picture can also be found under the menu item Painting. (Colors in the Wind, 40 x 60 cm, acrylic on canvas)
This painting was inspired by photos (Hubble Space Telescope) of distant star worlds such as the Carina Nebula. I began to recreate the structures I saw through spontaneous wide movements with broad brushstrokes. This initially resulted in an interesting pattern that could have been printed on a fabric. In this pattern I discovered, still completely hidden, the outline of a dragon. This dragon seemed to me to be more of a dragon woman and she and the whole cosmos around it continued to develop. Now I am happy to present the constellation painting. The picture can also be found under the menu item Painting. (Guardian for the stars, 60 x 80 cm, acrylic on canvas)
In May 2021, after a long break due to Corona, I finally had the opportunity to visit the North Sea island of Föhr again, with a drawing sheet and pen. In the port of Wyk, the sailing ship "Windsbraut von Stade" was berthed, with the lighthouse at the port entrance in the background. The picture can also be found under the menu item drawing. (in Wyk harbor, 15 x 21 cm, calligraphy pen on paper)
The desire to paint a picture of a forest came on a hike in the Spöktal in the Lüneburg Heath near Bispingen. It was a sunny day in November 2019. I had taken a lot of photos there, but in the end it was my memory of the special atmosphere that influenced my painting. The picture was only finished in July 2020, in the times of "Corona". Surely that also had an influence on the picture. (Magical forest, 60 x 80 cm, acrylic on canvas)
In summer, when it's not too hot, I'm always looking forward to taking my easel out into a garden or a field. This is how the new picture "Reverie" emerged. Even if I continue to paint later in the studio, somehow the mood captured during the first brush strokes will be remembered and affect the picture. (Reverie, 50 x 60 cm, acrylic on canvas)
For the painting on the right side I put myself in a field, on a summer day in Ahrensburg near Hamburg. However, it has only been finished after many hours of painting in the studio. The pictures can also be found under the menu item painting. (Summer day, 50 x 80 cm, acrylic on canvas)
Salt marshes form the transition between sea and land in tidal waters and represent biodiversity for nature and exciting color transitions for the painter. The desire to paint "salt marsh" arose spontaneously, during a walk in the dike foreland of Wremen at the Wurster Nordseeküste in northern Germany.
I would have liked to paint there in nature, but the way was too difficult to take easel and colors with me. So I made a drawing (Salt marsh, 15 x 21 cm, calligraphy pen on paper) to capture my impression and many photos. The next day, still directly impressed by the experience, I painted. The picture can also be found under the menu item Painting. (Salt marsh, 40 x 60 cm, acrylic on canvas)
We could not see without light. Our main source of light is the sun. Other objects reflect light, just as the moon reflects the light of the sun. But in addition to the sun, there are many other self-luminous sources of light such as stars, meteors, fire, flames, lightning, glowing lava, and man-made illuminants. A very special light source is the Aurora Borealis or northern light, it has magical appeal, also on artists and physicists. Northern lights are formed when particles of the solar wind hit atoms in the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere and ionize them. In the subsequent recombination light is emitted. Now I present my second picture on the subject of Aurora Borealis. (Northern lights above houses, 70 x 80 cm, acrylic on canvas)
At the beginning of the year 2018 the three paintings "storm, sunshine and rain" were created. Inspired by the often very fast changing weather at the German North Sea coast, the idea was born to devote a triptych to these forces of nature. It is a painting of inner landscapes, a world of ideas. I thought of the North Frisian Hallig islands and their inhabitants, who are so exposed to the weather. The pictures can also be found under the menu item Painting. (Storm, sunshine and rain, 45 x 105 cm, acrylic on canvas)
